Rick’s vision and drive to provide athletic opportunities for all led to his building SportsZone in 2006. As the owner, and an avid sportsman, Rick possesses an unparalleled passion for teaching kids. Originally from New Jersey, he coached basketball & baseball at the Little League, Travel All-Stars and High School (Edison and Toms River) levels, winning several State and Regional Championships. A North Myrtle Beach resident for the past fourteen years he is actively involved in the Dixie Youth program, tournament teams and runs the men’s softball program. Throughout the years many of his players have earned college scholarships or signed pro contracts.
Mickey Duval / All Facets

Mickey brings extensive experience to the Grand Strand Baseball/Softball academy.
Mickey was drafted in 1975 as an outfielder by the Cincinnnati Reds organization
to the single A affiliate. In 1977, Mickey was called up to the Florida State
League where he was in the top ten in batting averages and third in stolen bases.
In 1978, he was called up to Double A in Nashville, TN where again, he was in
the top ten in batting averages and stolen bases. In 1978, Mickey was
invited to play winter ball in Tampa, FL which lead to his major league debut
with the Japan tour. Since then, Mickey has been conducting individual
hitting instructions and clinics.
Jim Muirhead / Softball & Pitching

A Staten Island native and retired detective of the NYPD, Jim brings an illustrious record as a softball player to the Grand Strand Baseball/Softball Academy, having played on 2 National Modified Fast Pitch Championship Teams as a pitcher/1st baseman. In addition to his playing experience, Jim has coached both softball and baseball at the youth, high school and collegiate level for over twenty-five years. Jim’s strengths include incorporating the psychology of the game into his instructional lessons.
Bri Scrofano/Fast Pitch Softball
Bri was named to the 2008 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Central Region
third-team after helping the Big Red (Denison) to the North Coast Athletic
Conference Tournament championship and the school's fourth NCAA Tournament
berth. Bri posted a career-best 18-5 record and was named to the ALL-NCAC
first-team for the second consecutive season. Her 18 victories was one off
the school single-season record for wins. She leaves DU as the program's
all-time leader in starts and is second in wins, complete games, shutouts,
strikeouts and innings pitched.
The Big Red went 28-12 in 2008 and advanced to the NCAA Regional Championship
game for the first time in school history.
Bri earned a degree in PHED and Sports Management.
Gregg Rotto / Infield, Outfield & Hitting

Gregg played his High School, American Legion and College ball in his home state of Pennsylvania. A versatile athlete, he hit .475 while helping lead his Legion team to the State Finals in 1992 and played second base, outfield and pitched for the University of Pittsburgh from 1993 to 1995. Greg has been teaching at the AAU level both privately and at camps/clinics for over 10 years
Ryan Dunn / Infield, Outfield & Hitting

Ryan is a local product of the Grand Strand, having played for both North Myrtle Beach High and Coastal Carolina. In addition to teaching his own 4 and 10 year olds, Ryan has spent the past several years coaching AAU ball in the U11 divisions, bringing home some impressive tournament results. Ryan is also a certified umpire which lends an important perspective to teaching the game.
